While all human bodies have the same needs for water, sustenance, sleep, shelter, and regular exercise, men and women have different needs when it comes to keeping the best health. Women’s bodies store fat in different places and in different ways, women have different biological functions to be concerned about, women have more significant risks to different types of cancer and heart disease, and of course, the biggest concern is how women deal with children—either preparing to be pregnant, during pregnancy, and post-partum. There are a lot of important aspects to women’s health and fitness, and it is critical for women to be up on those aspects and educated on their own bodies, their own needs, and their own risks. Considerations for women’s health and fitness include nutrition, exercise and fitness, sex, relationships, pregnancy, and physical issues—though this is a short list. Other people might include more specific aspects, but this list gets to the main thrust of the issue.
Women should have aerobic exercise at least three times a week, twenty minutes each time. They should eat a balanced diet that provides enough calcium for women over thirty-five years old. All females over the age of eighteen, or who are sexually active, should have an annual check-up and pap smear. These annual exams are meant to detect any abnormal issues, any lumps, and any signs of cancer. Women who are sexually active should also have regular check-ups for certain sexually transmitted diseases. A regular exercise regimen, balanced diet, annual exam, and protected sex life will help increase quality of life.
