Though it seems like common sense, many people live their lives like they have forgotten that health and physical fitness do indeed go hand in hand. That’s not to say that everybody who is physically fit is completely healthy, of course! There are genetic problems and diseases that can cause damage regardless of how much you exercise and if you eat right. There are also diseases and problems that have nothing to do with your fitness—for example, sexually transmitted diseases don’t care how often you exercise on a weekly or daily basis. But in general, you greatly reduce your health risks if you exercise and make it a point to care about your physical fitness. Here are some ways that it makes a big difference.
First, aerobic exercise strengthens your heart and your circulatory system. Since you will absolutely die if your heart gives out, it’s pretty clear why this is important. Your heart is a muscle, and like every other muscle in the body, it gets stronger if it’s forced to work harder. Second, exercise burns calories, which in turn helps burn off fat and helps you lose weight. The less fat you have, the less heath risks you have that are associated with obesity. Third, regular exercise helps reduce the risk of injury. Fourth, regular exercise helps increase your stamina for all sorts of activities. You can walk further, dance longer, and even improve your performance at work. Finally, self confidence and self esteem has a direct impact on your mental health.
