There are many health and fitness issues currently facing Americans and people in the Western world in general. The biggest of these issues is obesity. There are many, many illnesses and diseases linked explicitly to obesity, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Of course, people with a vested interest in convincing people to spend a great deal of money in an effort to lose all that weight, and so there are claims that America is in the middle of some sort of obesity epidemic. The science behind all those claims are deeply flawed, and probably there is no such thing as the obesity epidemic. However, having said that, there is no doubt that there are some people who are in a dangerous weight zone, and those people are the results of the current American lifestyle.
There are many things about the American lifestyle that leads to certain health and fitness issues. For one thing, people are more sedentary that ever. People work behind desks for eight to ten hours a day, and then they spend literally hours in cars and trains during their commutes. Most people claim to be too busy to take the time to exercise. Another problem is the common food that people eat. The cheapest, most convenient food is also the stuff that is full of fat and calories, while genuinely healthy food is often quite expensive and out of reach of poorer people with hectic lifestyles. So the biggest issues basically come down to physical exercise and nutrition.
