Health and Fitness for Children

There was a time, not too long ago, when most children were given three square meals a day, an appropriate snack, and encouraged to play outside until after sundown. Now, people are so worried about stranger danger, they do not like the thought of letting their kids out of sight for even a second. The amount of playing outside is severely cut down, often in favor of watching television or playing video games. Often, a child’s diet is deplorable. There are candy and soda machines in schools. Snacks tend to be over processed junk full of sugar. Busy parents would rather default to something like pizza or fast food than provide the suitable meal with food from each of the four food groups. All of this adds up to create a situation where health and fitness for children has never been more important. Childhood diseases and illnesses are on the rise, partly because children are not living very fit lives, and they aren’t expected to.

To encourage health and fitness for children, you should consider taking very simple steps. First, make sure that the children in question have access to three square meals per day. That means that they should be well balanced meals that include the appropriate servings of fruit and vegetable. Also remember that children are growing. Young children actually need things like healthy fat in order for their brains to develop! Remember that the needs of a children’s body are not the same as the needs for an adult body.
